Miscellaney

Wow, when I decided to get a blog, I really did think that I'd find something worth saying more than once every week or so. I'm sorry y'all!!
I can't even think of anything worth writing now! But since it's been well over a week, I'd better go ahead and write SOMETHING. So I guess I'll just start typing and see where I wind up. (I pity you...)

The Dartmouth Aires

Wow. So here's my new obsession, musically speaking, anyway. The mens' a capella group at Dartmouth. I'd never heard anything from them...but one of the guys at work--Shawn (the nighttime security guy)--burned me a couple of mix CD's this morning, just for something new to listen to. Track 10 (of 18) on Disc 2 is an a cappella "Take On Me". Y'know, that awful song from the eighties that, in spite of it's being awful, is arguably the BEST music video in the history of ever? I adore that video. It's just cool, and I suppose it appeals to the fantasy-loving little girl that giggles underneath this "psuedo-mature" eighteen-year-old exterior.
I always wanted to love the song. The song itself actually had the potential for excellence. But the lead singer of A-Ha really never got the whole falsetto thing, and it would GRATE on my nerves every time he sang "IIII'll beee gooonne/In a day or TWWWOOOOOOOO!" *shudders*
-BUT-
The Dartmouth Aires fixed it. With all the crescendos and sforzandos and such, and the sheer richness of all those lovely voices, I must say I truly adore the song now. Just like I always wanted. *satisfied grin*
Try to guess what I'm listening to now. ;o)

A cute Jared thing

Totally random, totally sweet story:
The other day, Dad let Jared read the Bible story for our family quiet time. We've been reading through some of the stories about David. So Jared is sitting there, happy as a clam, with a study Bible, almost as big as he is, spread open on his lap. We've said our opening prayer, and we're now all looking expectantly at J. He looks around the room--obviously very excited and honored by such a privilege--and he says, "Before I begin, I'd like to say a few words..."
One of the guys breaks in, "I'd like to thank the Academy..."
Jared, "I'm serious. First, I'd like to thank Dad for allowing me the opportunity to read our scripture for tonight. I'd also like to thank Ashley and Amanda and Mom, for teaching me to read so I *could* read tonight. Thank you. Now, chapter 19..."

Okay. That's it. I just thought it was cute.

My purple knitting stuff

Oh man, I am SO excited! I spent a portion of winter, all of spring, and the better part of summer working on a seven-foot-long, rib-knit scarf. I could've finished it much quicker, but there's something very disheartening about knitting a thick, wooly scarf when it's 103 degrees outside, so I suppose I wasn't motivated to hurry. But now it's officially the fall season (though it's not officially fall), and I can wear all my tweed and ultrasuede and all my SCARVES!! And right now I'm working on a matching ribbed toboggan for the scarf I finished. This yarn is -so- pretty! It's thick, and soft, and bulky, and PURPLE! It is the most lovely shade of lavender. I love it. And if I can only figure out where I dropped the 64th stitch on my circular needles, I'll be done in a flash, and then I can put up pictures of my purple stuff in all its purple loveliness.

Thanks for letting me verbally meander. Okay. I guess I'm done now.
