Hello everybody. I need everyone and their grandmother to pray for this one. Right now. I'm also going to ask you all to tell anyone you can to pray for this right now, as time is of the essence. And, if the Lord leads you to, maybe put it on your blogs or something.
A very dear friend of our family--she was one of my mom's best friends--put her baby, Ian, to bed last night. She tucked her older kids in bed, made herself some dinner, and about 40 minutes after she laid him down, she went back to go check on him. His feet and legs were cold, and she discovered he wasn't breathing. She called 911, and performed CPR on him until the EMT's arrived. They managed to revive him, and they took him to the hospital, where they determined that his core temperature was 93 degrees. The doctors, for now, are chalking it up to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. They told her that they didn't hold out much hope. Expect the worst. However, some of the nurses told her that they've seen much worse cases come out of this just fine.
The next update I recieved in my e-mail said that Ian was on a respirator, taking 26 breaths per minute with the machine. The CAT scan they took came back "fairly normal", whatever that means, and the spinal tap they did came back negative for meningitis (sp?). His sinuses are a little inflamed. They were planning on doing an MRI this afternoon.
I was also informed that Child Protective Services were called in (standard operating procedure), and were raiding the house, questioning friends, family, and neighbors, looking through the medicine cabinets, etc. CPS is being very rude to the family, and it's only adding more hurt to the situation as their son's life hangs in the balance.
The last update I recieved.......breaks me.
Ian has no gag reflex, and severe brain damage. The doctors say he won't be able to breathe without help. They're advising the family to pull the plug on his life support.
This has all happened so fast. So fast. This family was so sweet and supportive and there for us through our whole ordeal when Mom was sick. And it was actually the day that Erinne was born--the day after they induced Mom's coma--that they found out that they were pregnant with Ian.
Sweet, sweet family....precious, godly, devoted, compassionate family....please pray for a miracle here. I keep thinking of Jesus' example of the man who came to his neighbor's house late at night, and asked for bread, and was denied. He kept coming back, and kept asking, until the neighbor relented. Even if it's not the Lord's original plan to rescue Ian, I'm asking Him to change His mind. I really, really can't imagine something like this happening to them. I'm heartbroken.
Now I'm just rambling out of the excess of my own confusion, and that's no good, so I'll stop.
Just please pray, and get everyone you can to pray.
By His grace and for His glory,
~Ashley Michele~
P.S.
This was copied-and-pasted into forums, e-mails, and my blog. So you may be reading this for the third or fourth time. Sorry.
